  • Share Hey, I was speaking with my friend a few mins ago, and don’t know why I didn’t think of this before, but a large abstract art piece would be so cool, as not only does it lend to so much creativity, but it is suitable to any type of skatepark activity. This feature can have so many line options, like varying degree wall rides, varying angle and height platforms, optional gaps(hole in middle) and normal gaps(transfers and speed gaps), and like quarter pipe shaped things, etc, this feature can be pretty large, and can maybe represent Newmarket’s past, present, or even future. Definitely should be tall and stand out too as a landmark kind of. This kind of feature is something you would drive far to ride anything on. I’ve gotten into mtb street trials recently, so i is recently opened my mind to things like this, and realized the possibility and coolness of something like it.. It will also keep people off a lot of urban environments that will have these features. If you guys want some more info, just ask. Also, wouldn’t it be so sick if you guys let some graffiti artists go wild, make it look like stickerbombed or something and totally take away the commonly seen dull colours at a skatepark and make an amazing place to hang out, ride, and admire. on Facebook Share Hey, I was speaking with my friend a few mins ago, and don’t know why I didn’t think of this before, but a large abstract art piece would be so cool, as not only does it lend to so much creativity, but it is suitable to any type of skatepark activity. Hi Sean - thank you for the suggestion!

We do have a large 'central turn around' feature that will be constructed within the skatepark that separates the junior and advanced area which is a very cool and unique feature!

Feel free to e-mail me anytime at eengman@newmarket.ca if you'd like more info

    Thanks

Max Power asked over 3 years ago

Hi Max - great question! Facilitates staff are aware of the skatepark project and do an amazing job maintaining the facility and will continue to do so once the skatepark is installed! One reason this skatepark location was chosen is due to the near-by amenities available to the skateboarders. Right now, an outdoor waterbottle fill station is being proposed for the skatepark users. We are reviewing signage and other avenues to deter skateboarders from skateboarding at the entrances of the building.

    Thanks for the comment!

Nella asked over 3 years ago

Hi Nella - that is correct!  At the very beginning of this project, we thought we could separate a junior area and advanced area at the Magna Centre, but learned through our subject matter experts  it was more beneficial to include junior and more advanced features in one larger skatepark to promote mentorship, learning, and provide more skatepark space for the users! With our finalized design, the area to the west has more junior features and more advanced features towards the east.

    Thank you for your comment

  • Share Hey, I dont remember if i mentioned this in my survey, but I would love to see proper mountain bike and dirt jump features. and I think a lot of other people will too. I know that you guys have been having issues with people building things all summer in forests and such. and a set of dirt jumps and mountain bike features can really counteract that. A must is a set of proper sized dirt jumps. step ups preferably as they are better to learn tricks. on Facebook Share Hey, I dont remember if i mentioned this in my survey, but I would love to see proper mountain bike and dirt jump features. and I think a lot of other people will too. Sean asked over 3 years ago

Thank you for the suggestion, Sean! We tried to maximize the space we had for the concrete skatepark as identified in our Recreational Playbook Program which unfortunately means there wouldn't be room for dirt jumps as part of this project.  However, as a mountain biker myself, I do like the idea!
